Objective #
Lawns have been actively growing for a few weeks and will need additional fertilizer to maintain a thick dark green appearance. Winter annual broadleaf weeds are flowering and summer annual weeds will be starting to show up later in the month. Broadleaf weed control will be applied by either handcan, backpack or mixed into your truck’s spray tanks. Along with fertilization we will be applying a 2nd round of crabgrass preemergent to extend control through the summer. Diseases in the lawns at this point can be corrected and grown out with fertilizer. Preventative grub control applications will open the last week of the month. Customers will get their next application in June or early July.

Red Thread Disease | Thin areas with pink growth. Can be corrected with additional nitrogen fertilizer.
Dollar Spot Disease | Blighted spots of turf. Can be corrected with additional nitrogen fertilizer.
Grub Damage | Turf pulls up easily. Curative grub application is needed (Arena 0.25G).
Leaf Spot Disease
|
Tiny circular dark spots on leaves. Spots can girdle the grass blades and cause death of leaf. Crown of the plant may rot due to the disease resulting in ‘melting out’.
|
||||||||
Dormant Turf (Zoysia) | Warm season grasses will not green up until late May. They could still be brown now. |
Push Spreader | Truck Spray System | Handcan/Backpack
Review product application rate and set spreader properly. Trim property with deflector shield down and 3rd port hole slide closed. For Scotts spreaders set pattern cone to 1 while trimming and 4 for normal passes.
|
Calibrate spray output to 2 gallons per minute by conducting a bucket check. Calibrate injection system by turning off main spray line and bucket check injection line by itself. Agitate tank mix for at least 5 minutes before first stop or after extended breaks. Do not drive with pumping system engaged.
|
Hold nozzle at knee height and walk slowly over weeds while spraying. Do not move arm side to side or back and forth while spraying. Keep elbow locked at your side. Overlap previous spray pattern by 6 inches for proper rate. Ensure equipment is properly labeled. Agitate mix before filling and spraying.
