Objective #

Preventative grub control is being applied now to control grubs as they hatch later in the summer. Crabgrass and other summer annual weeds have germinated and will be easier to control now while they are small. Lawn growth is starting to slow down as temperatures rise above 80F and rain occurs less frequently. Coaching your customers to water properly 1 in. per week will help them keep the lawn from going dormant due to heat and drought stress. Mowing heights should be raised to 3 – 3.5 in. and customers should be mowing frequently enough to only remove ~1 in. of grass each time they mow. Grass may still be producing seed and seed heads will be removed by regular mowing. Customers will get their next application in July or early August during our TruDetail time frame.

Expected Diseases, Insects & Environmental Stresses #

Dollar Spot Disease Blighted spots of turf. Can be corrected with additional nitrogen fertilizer.
Brown Patch Disease Circular patches 1-3 ft wide of blighted turf. Watering and mowing correctly will help.
Leaf Spot Disease
Tiny circular dark spots on leaves. Spots can girdle the grass blades and cause death of leaf. Crown of the plant may rot due to the disease resulting in ‘melting out’.
Pet Damage (Urine Spots) Patches of dead turf with dark green borders. Look for other signs of pets.
Drought Stress Coach on proper watering. 1 inch per week over 1-2 watering events.
Push Spreader Truck Spray System Handcan/Backpack
Review product application rate and set spreader properly. Trim property with deflector shield down and 3rd port hole slide closed. For Scotts spreaders set pattern cone to 1 while trimming and 4 for normal passes.
Calibrate spray output to 2 gallons per minute by conducting a bucket check. Calibrate injection system by turning off main spray line and bucket check injection line by itself. Agitate tank mix for at least 5 minutes before first stop or after extended breaks. Do not drive with pumping system engaged.
Hold nozzle at knee height and walk slowly over weeds while spraying. Do not move arm side to side or back and forth while spraying. Keep elbow locked at your side. Overlap previous spray pattern by 6 inches for proper rate. Ensure equipment is properly labeled. Agitate mix before filling and spraying.
