Liquid vs. Granular

You may have noticed that we have added liquid fertilizer to our lawn program this year. In our quest to provide the highest quality, premium service to our clients, we’ve developed a new program to incorporate both liquid and granular fertilizers into our service.

For decades there has been a debate in the lawn care industry as to which is better, liquid fertilizer or dry granular fertilizer. The answer is both. Liquid and granular fertilizers have pros and cons, so when developing our Dream Greener lawn and tree/shrub programs we incorporated both types to ensure the best results during the growing season.

First, we will look at the benefits of liquid fertilizer. One reason to use a liquid over dry is to be able to add other liquid product to the mixture and apply them evenly to the lawn. One example of this is crabgrass control in the spring. Applying a liquid fertilizer and adding a pre-emergent in the mixture will guarantee an accurate, evenly distributed product offering better results. While liquid is a preferred method of applying fertilizer there are draw backs. During the hot, dry summer months liquid fertilizer can damage an already dry lawn making a slow-release granular fertilizer a better choice. The slow-release granular fertilizer will stay in place on the lawn until watered in with a sprinkler or with natural rain fall.

With every visit we will fertilize your lawn with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These naturally occurring nutrients are also known as N-P-K and will be referred to on fertilizer products as a number, for example 20-10-10. This would indicate 20% Nitrogen, 10% phosphorus, and 10% Potassium. How does this relate to your lawn or your trees and shrubs? Well, an uncomplicated way to understand fertilizer is by the phrase, up, down, and all around. Up is the Nitrogen that will help the above ground portion of lawn or foliage. Down is the phosphorus for the root system or your lawn or plants, and all around is the potassium which will benefit both surface and sub surface. At every lawn visit, we will provide your lawn with a balanced fertilizer that we have selected based on your lawns needs and the time of year. Your fertilizer visit may be in a liquid or dry granular form depending on weather, weeds, or pests that we may be targeting at the same time. When your lawn care specialist uses a granular fertilizer, you may enjoy your lawn immediately after the visit. When a liquid fertilizer is applied, we ask that you let it dry first to eliminate tracking any products in unwanted areas or getting on children or pets.

At Dream Greener we treat every lawn with what is most beneficial to the specific property, homeowner, and environment. Dream greener considers environmentally conscience programs as a responsibility to our clients and the community. We use premium products that offer a lower volume of active ingredients to achieve the same or better results of products that have a higher active ingredient. Allowing Dream Greener to provide your lawn and tree/shrub care needs will also eliminate the need to buy, transport, and store products in a concentrated form or where children or pets may have access. Our lawn and tree/shrub care specialist are licensed by the state of Pennsylvania and actively participate in a quarterly continuing education program keeping updated on the newest products and safety best practices.

Dream Greener is proud to provide a service that will keep your property beautifully maintained, while ensuring that environmental standards and not only met, but exceeded.
