Slice seeding (also called slit-seeding or turf slicing) is a renovation method where specialized blades cut narrow channels or grooves into the existing lawn surface, and seed is placed directly into these slits. Because the seed is deposited into the soil rather than simply broadcast on top, germination rates and root-soil contact improve. Slice seeding is most appropriate when you have moderate thinning, bare spots, or compacted soil, but not when complete replacement is required. It delivers faster results than overseeding alone, but at a lower cost than full sod replacement. For cool-season grasses, Penn State Extension recommends slicer/seeder machines in renovation when the lawn has been killed or heavily thinned and soil prepared.

Choose full renovation when:

Yes. During your analysis, we evaluate your current turf’s species, color, texture, and density. For partial renovations, we select blends that closely match what you already have. If your existing grass species performs poorly, we may recommend upgrading the entire lawn to a modern, more resilient blend.
